Unity’s Particle shaders have a Soft Particles option. This option in theory is suppose to make the transition of a particle passing through a mesh more pleasing. It does look like it cutting into the mesh. I have had very mixed results with this. I ll say, it makes a difference. But what exactly, I am not so sure.
Since we didn’t notice any change with our particles, I turned this off. Hoping it made some improvement to the performance without effecting quality.
You can overwrite soft particles settings for the entire game from Unity’s Quality Settings.
