Art: Snow Googles

I haven’t tested my modeling skills in a while. So I thought I ll make a random prop. I ordered a pair on Snow Goggles for my next year’s Snowboarding sessions. They haven’t reached yet. So I thought I ll 3D model a pair. The concept for this model came from many photos I searched online and just modeled without any blueprints(side, front, top views). Looking back I should have probably done that.

Either way, it took me almost 2 days to model this little prop!

Modeling the prop with duplicating revisions in Maya

I’d say I my modeling speed is now less than half the amount it used to be. All these years of working as Technical Artist takes a toll on you modeling skills. Probably not the best edge flow, but I am still glad I finished it.

Here’s a little peak of my work, so far.

Modeling in Maya and setting up Material IDs

For texturing, I wanted to try Quixel’s latest software called Mixer. I gave it a shot a couple of weeks ago for a primer.

Here’s a link to my first impressions of the software.

Here’s what the model looks like using Maya’s Automatic UVs and baking out Material ID maps.
